Dear Editor:

Dr. Dwight Hooton is running for school board and I believe he would do an outstanding job. I have had the pleasure of working for and with Dr. Hooton and he is one of the kindest and hardest working people I have known. Why would a 32-year practicing veterinarian make a great board member? Doctors are highly qualified to lead. They must diagnosis a problem, determine and discuss possible solutions and to be open to other opinions and ideas and then act on them — skills that every board member needs. Dr. Hooton remains calm even during times of life threatening emergencies and has the ability to make difficult decisions. When he speaks, he is clear, detailed and understandable. The cost of medicine must always be a part of every decision — a financial skill that will serve Dr. Hooton well as a school board member. Dr. Hooton is humble and curious; he is fair and ethical. He understands the need to work as a team to get things done. He’s not afraid of making tough choices; he makes them every day as a doctor. He knows when to stop; he knows when it’s time to do less. He’s not afraid to seek the advice of others when he does not have the information he needs to move forward. Collaboration with his fellow board members, teachers and school staff will be first and foremost. Please vote for him.
