Primary election

Dear Editor:

In a few weeks registered Republicans will receive their ballots for the primary election in June. It is their opportunity to choose which candidate for Archuleta County Sheriff they would like to see on the November ballot.

I frequently hear my contemporaries, the “older generation,” deplore the fact that so few young people are involved in the political process and that we need to get the younger folks involved and active. Archuleta County voters now have the opportunity to vote for an outstanding young man for sheriff. Rich Valdez was born and grew up in Archuleta County. He and his wife are raising their family in Pagosa Springs and their children are attending local schools.

Rich Valdez is totally invested in and committed to our community. He started his law enforcement career in the Pagosa Springs Police Department and later moved to the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office. He is endorsed by the previous Pagosa Springs Police Chief and current mayor, Don Volger. He is also endorsed by his current boss, Archuleta County Sheriff Pete Gonzalez, and by former undersheriffs Jim Saunders and John Weiss.

Please join me and vote for Rich Valdez in the upcoming primary election.
