Dear Editor:

What is real power?  Does it just come at the end of a gun, or from a large bank account?  Is it the ability to control and manipulate other people’s lives?  Is it the simple fact of being in some “authority” position?  No!  Real power is the ability and the will to help, to serve, to lift others up, and not oppress them.  Real power seeks to influence and change people for the better, to bring out the talents, the abilities of those they serve … to protect and help them to be the best they can be.  Our county commissioners exhibited elements of real power recently in passing the resolution to protect the 2nd Amendment gun rights of all residents of Archuleta County.  Thank you, gentlemen.  It is this type of leadership we want here, and we all hope to see much more of this exercise of real power, and not the childish insecure facade so many in authority exhibit so routinely.
