Special to The PREVIEW

The Pagosa Springs Athletic Booster Club will be hosting its fourth annual Pirate Plunge Mud Run this Saturday, July 22, at Yamaguchi Park and Pirate Hill.

It’s a 5k mud run obstacle course where you can compete as a team or individual.

The run is designed for all athletic abilities and is not a “race” in the traditional sense. It is an untimed obstacle course designed to push participants slightly out of their comfort zones, but only as far as they want to go. There are three divisions that prizes will be awarded: muddiest runner, largest group and best zombie costume. So, gather up all your friends, get creative and prepare to get muddy.

The Pirate Plunge Mud Run kicks off at 3 p.m. You can register online at www.pirateplunge.com or on the day of the race. Day-of-race registration will be at Yamaguchi Park and will open at 1 p.m. and will close promptly at 2:30 p.m.

Athletes will be challenged, get dirty and be photographed throughout our rigid obstacle mud run.

At the time of check-in, all athletes will receive a runner’s package and a Pirate Plunge T-shirt, tote and beer coozy. At the finish line, the local fire crews will cheer you on as they douse you with the water. Whether this is your first race or you’re a mud run enthusiast, the Pirate Plunge has first-rate obstacles and a course for you.

After the Mud Run will be the Corn Hole (bean bag toss) Tournament, two-person tourney, double elimination, $20.

Register online at Pirateplunge.com or at the event. Registration and check in for the Corn Hole Tournament starts at 3:30 p.m and closes at 5 p.m. A taco and burrito bar with beer and margaritas will start at 5 p.m. Music will start at 5 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m.

Proceeds from the Pirate Plunge Mud Run support all athletes of Pagosa Springs High School. The Pagosa Springs Athletic Booster Club aids in the purchasing of uniforms and equipment. The Booster Club also assists Archuleta School District in paying for the athletic trainer’s contract. We strive to ensure that our athletes have the equipment needed, uniforms required and a qualified trainer. Your support would assist us in this feat.

If running is not your forte, there are several ways you can assist. Become a Booster Club sponsor, enroll in the City Market Cares program, purchase Pirate Pride merchandise, attend games and visit the concession stand.

Visit pirateplunge.com to register for the event or for more information, and like us on Facebook for race updates. Participants under the age of 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Anyone under the age of 18 will need to have a parent or guardian to sign the waiver.

This event is greatly supported by the community. Come enjoy summer in the San Juan Mountains. Find fun, excitement and camaraderie.

See you at the Plunge.
