Pirate meet and greet, community pep rally to be held for State Champs

The Pagosa Springs Pirates boy’s basketball team defeated Kent Denver 53-49 to win the 2013 3A State Championship on Saturday evening.

Earlier in the day, the Pirates girl’s team won the Consolation Championship by defeating Kent Denver girls by a score of 32-28.

There will be a law enforcement escort for the Pagosa Pirates from the base of Wolf Creek Pass to the high school starting at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening. The team leaves Denver at noon on Sunday, all times are approximate. The bus will stop at the high school where the community is encouraged to meet and greet the Pirates, around 5:45-6 p.m.

A community pep rally will be held at the high school at 10 a.m. Monday to honor the state champs.

There is no school for high school students on Monday, but staff will report to work. Grades K-8 will be on their regular schedule.

See Thursday’s Pagosa Springs SUN for more details on the championship games.

I hope to see the entire town at the school tonight…we should embrace and celebrate with these amazing young athletes. What they have accomplished is nothing short of awesome. Let’s show them how immensely proud we are.

Totally awestruck at this accomplishment. Wish I was in town to celebrate. Both teams doing this good is beautiful.
