Photography club to tour downtown

By Steve Merchant
Special to The PREVIEW

The Pagosa Springs Photography Club regular monthly meeting on Wednesday evening, Aug. 13, will be as a guided photo tour around downtown Pagosa Springs. Join us for socializing and light refreshments at Jeff Laydon’s studio/gallery, 480 San Juan St. (across the street from the county courthouse), at 6 p.m. The walking tour will then begin at about 6:30 p.m.

During the walk, we will visit several nearby locations selected by Jeff. At each location, Jeff will discuss his approach to potential photographs that might be taken at that particular site, including emotional appeal as well as the “basics” such as composition, light, aperture and lens selection, and answer any member questions. Members are encouraged to bring their own photo equipment and take advantage of the photographic opportunities that present themselves. The tour will end back at the studio/gallery.

Jeff Laydon has been a commercial and portrait photographer since 1980 and is a long-time member of the Photography Club. Jeff has been making pictures of the people, products and places in his downtown studio, in beautiful Pagosa Springs, the surrounding San Juan Wilderness and the rest of the Four Corners area of southern Colorado. Jeff uses traditional large or medium format cameras, 35mm, and the latest high-resolution digital cameras. He sees himself as an artist photographer, not just a picture-taker.

In September, the Photography Club will resume meeting the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Pinon Room at the Quality Resort.

Photography enthusiasts of all levels of ability are invited to attend club meetings at no charge for the first meeting. If interested, you are invited to join for annual dues of $25 for individuals, $35 for a family membership and $10 for a student membership.
