Special to The PREVIEW
The Pagosa Springs Girls Choir will present their spring concert on Tuesday evening, May 13, at 7 p.m. The concert will be held in the sanctuary of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church.
The theme for the concert is “I Will Sing.” The “girls,” as they have come to be known, will sing songs of different styles and genres, including sacred, secular, patriotic and folk. Soloists from the choir will be featured as well as the Belles, a small group of girls who play hand chimes.
“This is the first full concert for the girls to do on their own,” said PSGC Director Linda Parker. “When we began last September, I wasn’t sure how much we would accomplish this year. The girls sang with the Community Choir as Christmas, and it was a great opportunity. Being a small part of a large program, we didn’t have to learn the amount of music necessary to host a complete concert. However, the girls have exceeded all my expectations, and they are ready to showcase their talent.”
Along with the group’s regular accompanist, Sally Neel, several professional musicians will accompany the group. Sue Gottschalk on trumpet, Heidi Tanner on violin and Kathy Wadenpfuhl on flute will share their abilities on some of the music presented.
“We are so fortunate to have these talented ladies who are willing to accompany us. It is a great learning experience for the girls,” said Parker.
Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, May 13. Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted. A reception with light snacks will be held in the Parish Hall immediately following the concert to honor our supporters. We hope you will join us and support these talented young ladies.
