The Pagosa Farmers Market is the recipient of a grant from the national organization, Farmers Market Coalition, in the form of an EBT terminal that will accept SNAP, thus allowing the market to initiate the Double Up Bucks program supported by Live Well Colorado.

That is a mouthful of nonprofit organizations and they are all in the business of getting people to healthy food. The terminal also facilitates purchases of healthy food by anyone with a debit card.

The market is doing supremely well — loads of garden fresh vegetables, beautiful weather and great crowds.

SNAP recipients can double their food dollars through Sept. 16. Every dollar spent is matched with a dollar to a maximum of $20 per visit. Essentially that means free fruits and veggies. That’s what the Double Up Buck Program promises. How can anyone turn that down?
