Obituary-Clofes Marlene Gurule

obit guruleClofes “Cleo” Marlene Gurule passed away Aug. 2, 2013, in Farmington N.M.

Cleo was born on May 21, 1958, in Durango, Colo., to her parents Dolores and John T. Gurule. She has eight brothers and sisters: Linda, George, Ramona, Tessie, John, Margaret, Gerard and Anita. Cleo met her lifelong love, Jerry Williams, in 1979.

Jerry and Cleo had three daughters: Jeri, Danielle and Angela. Cleo and her family lived a full outdoor life with activities including motorcycling, boating, fishing, hunting, camping and wild berry picking. Cleo butchered and packaged the wild game they brought home; she cooked the wild game as a gourmet chef would cook. Every fall, friends and family would stand in line to get some of her venison and elk jerky that she pounded by hand and dried in her kitchen. Cleo was an avid canner, making her own wild chokecherry, raspberry and strawberry jellies and wine.

Cleo was a grandmother of two girls, Tayler and Tori, whom she loved very much.

Her father John T. in 2005, and her husband Jerry in 2006, preceded Cleo in death.

The interment of Cleo’s cremains will take place in Frances, Colo., in the Cemeterio de Frances, next to her namesake Cleofes C. Gurule, her paternal grandmother, at a later date.

Rosary, eulogy and Mass were held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in downtown Pagosa Springs on Aug. 9 and 10, 2013.
