Dear Editor:

I want to respond to remarks the county public works director said to the people of Pagosa Lakes.

He said roads were falling apart because they were poorly built.

I can tell it’s not so. The problem is total neglect, no upgrades.

These roads were tested by some great civil engineers. One, Mr. Cecil Tackett, who was chief engineer on the San Juan Chama project (25 miles) of water diversion. Two other current engineers who are still here.

These roads were built 35 years ago and no maintenance. I’d like to see some of his work last 35-40 years.
