My dad

Dear Editor:

I would like to say thank you to Mayor Aragon for his 36 years of service to Pagosa Springs. My dad has been the Mayor of Pagosa since I was five years old. He has served on more community boards during this time than I can list. I have grown up being the Mayor’s daughter. I have witnessed first hand the stress, time, and energy he has given to our community, all while holding a full time job and raising six kids. I am proud of him. He truly loves Pagosa. I have no idea how my dad has done it all these years. I have always trusted and supported him as our leader. And not just because he is my dad, but because he has proved his leadership to me through his dedication. I am proud to be a 6th generation native and daughter of the Mayor. I hope other residents feel the same way and will commend him instead of condemn him after 36 years of volunteer service. (No pay.)

I was disappointed to read the negative comments regarding him stepping down as Mayor on the SUN’s website of the article that ran last week. This is disheartening to me. It seems that armchair quarterbacks after the fact is what plagues this community lately. I don’t know anyone else who would have given the amount of time and energy that my dad has. One of the reasons he was in office for so long is because nobody else of quality would step up! Good luck to the next mayor, as you will need it! If the negative posts to the article are any indication of our future in Pagosa, it won’t be long before the newcomers chime in and complain. They will prove how thankless they can be yet they do nothing to help. I am happy that the Mayor will get to take some time to himself … finally.

If you see him around town do the right thing and show gratitude to him for his dedication to your community.

Jacque Aragon
