Monday is deadline for fall gymnastics

SUN Columnist

Registration for the fall session of gymnastics will close Monday; there are still openings in all age brackets except for the 8- and 9-year-old class.

Through an ongoing partnership with Pagosa Springs Middle School and local instructor Jennifer Martin, the Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department is offering this program for ages 3 and up.

Classes, which will be strictly limited to no more than 10 students per age group (eight for ages 3-5), begin Tuesday and will run through Oct. 10. Classes will be held in the high school “mat room” for the first two weeks, then move to the middle school mat room (wrestling room) according to the following schedule:

Classes for ages 6 and 7 will be held Tuesdays from 4-4:50 p.m. Classes for ages 8 and 9 will be held Tuesdays from 5-5:50 p.m. Classes for ages 10 and up will be held Tuesdays from 6-6:50 p.m.

In addition, classes will be held Thursdays from 4-4:50 p.m. for ages 3 and 4, from 5-5:50 p.m. for ages 4 and 5, and an intermediate class consisting of mixed ages will be held from 6-6:50 p.m. (students in this class will need to be pre-approved by instructor).

Cost is $30 for the complete session, but parents will also have the option to pay per class if attending all sessions is not feasible.

Registrations are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and have also been posted in Adobe format on the recreation department page at www.townofpagosasprings.com.

For more information call 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.

Youth soccer

Schedules for all divisions have been posted on the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com; games in the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions begin tonight at Yamaguchi Park.

On a related note, children who have been placed on a waiting list will be added to teams if and when spots become available in their respective age divisions.

Four teams from Dulce, N.M. (ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12) have recently agreed to participate in the league and will make the trip to Pagosa Springs each Thursday during the season. Games for the 5-6 and 7-8 divisions have been scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays at the elementary school soccer fields, while the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions will play Tuesdays and Thursdays at Yamaguchi Park on South 5th Street.

In addition, local teams in the 5-6 and 7-8 divisions will occasionally play Thursdays against Dulce (except for this week) at the elementary school; the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions will always play Thursdays against Dulce at Yamaguchi Park.
