Dear Editor:

It appears there is a lot of misunderstanding in a small minority of individuals in our County as expressed in the 1-23-14 BOCC meeting regarding the Liberty Zone ballot initiatives. Someone provided us an email with an unsigned message passed to many of the Democrats expressing fear and warning about the Liberty Zone petitions that the “Tea Party Libertarians” (no such group) circulated, and the apparent lack of understanding about what this is all about. First and foremost, it is an issue of law and Constitutional applications, not opinions, beliefs or any other subjective topic, and it isn’t even about the 11 initiatives themselves. The whole reason these initiatives exist is due to the various government(S) moving further and further into lawlessness and away from the constitution and its chains. The email stated … “Essentially, the Liberty Zone concept holds that citizens are not required to obey any federal, state, or local law which they deem to be unconstitutional,” (please look at other “States” nullifying unconstitutional laws …) and “Ironically, these people claim to revere the Constitution, yet want to trash the entire governmental system created in that document!” Well, whomever wrote (or believes) this diatribe presents gross ignorance of the Constitution that even the 8th grade constitution class understands better because they actually study it. Anyone who believes this propaganda has comfortably accepted their chains, and are subverting the laws you think you stand for. You’ve lost sight of who you are … Colorado Constitution, Article II, Section 1, Vestment of political power; “All political power is vested in and derived from the people; all government, of right, originates from the people, is founded upon their will alone, and is instituted solely for the good of the whole.” Government is not the boss, the People are… but some seem to want to bow down to, and serve, their own hired servants. You have that right, but don’t take everyone else down your black hole of ignorance and worship of our servants. What part of liberty and Constitutional law don’t you agree with? Why are you so afraid of what is going to take place here that you have to spread lies and keep the fearmongering going? Move. Do those who are against the Liberty Zone petitions have any lawful or constitutionally valid evidence to show why they fight the petitions or the People’s right to petition, other than presumptions and propaganda? If you want to have a genuine, factual, lawful discussion of the laws and Constitution, and present evidence of your positions to the community, then we will arrange a “town hall” meeting and present evidence in fact that supports the two basic stands for all to see and judge. That is the American way clearly discussed at the BOCC meeting. Avoiding that, and clinging to false arguments without facts or evidence, and we have a society slipping quickly into tyranny. How about what is right, and good and true, and not misinformation and ignorance? Does truth matter anymore to you?
