Pagosa Springs Middle School wrestlers traveled to Alamosa for the Colorado Middle School State Regional Tournament this past weekend.
As a team, they placed second out of 22 teams.
Seventeen wrestlers qualified to advance to the state tournament in Denver, to be held March 28 and 29. There are six regions throughout the state of Colorado, and the top eight placers qualify to go on to the state tournament.
Taking first in their respective weight classes were James Thomas (90 lbs.), Trevor Bryant (100 lbs.), Dalton Lucero (130 lbs.) and Nolan Stretton (198 lbs.).
Placing third at the tournament were Cameron Lucero (75 lbs.), Hunter Smith (130 lbs.), Colton Castro (135 lbs.) and Jacob Jolley (heavy weight).
Connor Aragon placed fourth at 145 lbs., and placing fifth were Cade Cowan (100 lbs.), Dillon Romero (145 lbs.), and Issaac Barrera (152 lbs.). Sixth-place finishers were Carson Laverty (115 lbs.) and Jude Lindberg (120 lbs.). Caleb Janowsky placed seventh at 125 lbs., and placing eighth were Paul Farrah (95 lbs.) and Favian Rodriguez (125 lbs.).
The Colorado Middle School State Wrestling Tournament will be held at the National Western Stockshow Complex beginning on Friday evening at 6 p.m. and continuing through Saturday evening.
