Middle school fall sports guidelines issued

By Justin Cowan
Special to The SUN

Fall sports at Pagosa Springs Middle School are just around the corner and prospective athletes should be aware of start dates and requirements that must be met prior to participation.

Pirate football and volleyball begin practice schedules on Monday, Aug. 11. Athletes in each of these sports begin practice at 8 a.m. at the middle school. Volleyball athletes report to the upper gym. Football athletes report to the lower gym.

Middle school cross-country begins Aug. 25 at 6:30 a.m.

Before an athlete can participate, he or she must have a current physical and a completed “Blue Card” packet on file with the school office. Blue Card packets will be available for pickup in the front office and at the first practice. Parents are asked to plan ahead so student athletes do not miss any practice time. Students must complete nine practices prior to football competitions and five prior to volleyball competitions.

Student athletes are allowed to participate in competitions when they and their parent/guardian have read, signed and turned in the Pagosa Springs Middle School Athletic Handbook and meet both academic and behavioral eligibility requirements each week.

All fall sports schedules for Pagosa Springs Middle School teams will be posted on the Pagosa Springs Middle School website at www.mypagosaschools.com.

Contact the middle school office at 264-5988 with any questions.
