Pagosa Springs area churches are proud to again welcome Minneapolis recording artist Michelle Whalen in concert at Centerpoint Church with Grammy award nominated Christian artist, Dallas Holm this Sunday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m.
The concert is free and open to the public. The opportunity for a love offering will be given.
Rhythm and blues, with a touch of world, folk and hop — Michelle Whalen sings and plays ageless hymns, spirituals and original songs with rich lyrics. Her background as a choir and music director with her musician husband, Joe, has continually honed and sharpened her ability and depth as a songwriter and performer.
Whalen traces her love of singing and songwriting to her years growing up in Minnesota and Madagascar as a child. She was deeply influenced by a musically-gifted mother who helped shape her love for music at an early age. It is there that she fell in love with timeless hymns of the faith and was inspired by the faith reflected in her missionary parents.
Whalen’s lyrics are scripturally based and come from a deep faith in God and a desire for her lyrics to reflect and express the joy and wonder she has of her relationship with Jesus.
Michelle Whalen will share songs from her independently released CD “Fringes,” as well as new songs she has written in the past couple of years.
Whalen will be opening for Dallas Holm, who is an icon of Christian music.
Though he never feels comfortable with such descriptions, Dallas agrees, “Through God’s grace, I’ve been part of the Christian music ministry for a long time.”
Dallas has earned his influence in today’s Christian music throughout more than 30 years of writing, singing and ministry in some 3,000 concerts in every state in the U.S., as well as many countries abroad. His 37 recordings have garnered gold records, multiple Dove awards, Grammy nominations, No. 1 songs and countless accolades. During his travels, Dallas also speaks and teaches what God has taught him in his journey.
Holm’s creativity and diversity offer everything from inspirational to blues, from country to reggae. Whatever the style, it all points to Christ and the Cross.
Songs like “Rise Again,” “I Saw the Lord,” “Here We Are” and “Before Your Throne” remind us that it’s all about Jesus. Holm’s songs focus on His life, His death and resurrection, and His desire for intimate relationship with us.
God has used Holm to shape the landscape of today’s Christian music.
Michelle Whalen opens for Dallas Holm this Sunday evening at 6 p.m. at Centerpoint Church. Doors will open an hour early for this free concert.
