The Michael Maestas Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Michael Maestas (Mikie), who was a young man with a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and snowboarding, as well as the sport of rodeo. Wrestling was also a very important part of his life, having wrestled from peewee wrestling all the way through his high school varsity years.
This year’s recipient of the $500 scholarship is Creede Wylie. Wylie plans on attending CSU Pueblo and studying kinesiology. He plans on playing football for CSU Pueblo and possibly wrestling, as well. Wylie was the 2014 heavyweight champion wrestler for the state of Colorado, and he has also had a lot of success in track at the varsity level. He has been active in student council throughout his high school years, as well as various community service projects. The scholarship committee would like to wish him good luck in his college years and congratulate him on a job well done.
