The Michael Maestas Memorial Rodeo will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Red Ryder Roundup Rodeo grounds.
There will be horse events for kids 19 and younger, with buckles awarded to the high point cowboy or cowgirl in each age group. Entries will be taken beginning at 10 a.m., and the rodeo starts at 11.
There will be a concession stand on site.
Monies received from this rodeo are used to support a scholarship in memory of Michael Maestas, and this year’s recipient is Kaylee Fitzwater.
“Mikie” was a young man with a passion for the outdoors. In addition to rodeo, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and snowboarding. Wrestling was also a very important part of his life; he wrestled from peewee wrestling all the way through his high school varsity years. Since his passing in 2006, he has been missed by many friends and family members.
