Special to The PREVIEW
The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College has finalized a contract with The Metropolitan Opera to screen performances of The Met: Live in HD during the opera’s 2012-2013 season.
Tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 14.
Though presented by the Community Concert Hall, screenings of The Met’s performances are planned for the Vallecito Room of the FLC Student Union. Equipment installed during the Student Union’s recent renovation meets The Met’s broadcast standard requirements.
“Ever since the Storyteller Theatres, which previously screened The Met, were purchased by the Allen Theatre chain, we’ve been working on securing a contract to make sure opera remains in Durango,” said Charles Leslie, Concert Hall director. “The contract negotiations took time, but we’re pleased that everything is now ready to go.”
The Met: Live in HD series will kick off Saturday, Oct. 13, and features 12 live performances, including seven new Met productions. The “magic” of The Met: Live in HD events is that they are delivered 100 percent live via satellite. Audiences throughout the world experience the production at the same time as the audience sitting in the Metropolitan Opera itself. Productions will be screened in Durango on Saturday mornings, typically 10 or 10:55 a.m.
The scheduled 2012-2013 program is:
Oct. 13 — L’Elisir d’Amore (Donizetti).New production.
Oct. 27 — Otello (Verdi).
Nov. 10 — The Tempest (Adès).New production.
