Memorial Day fun with the Doggy Dash and Dawdle

By Kirsten Le Roux
Special to The PREVIEW

gecko-race-IMG_9946GECKO kicks off summer outdoor events with an early season community fun run/walk, the inaugural Doggy Dash and Dawdle, on Saturday, May 24, at 10 a.m.

Starting and finishing outside Chow Down Pet Supplies in the City Market precinct (Country Center Drive), this is a family friendly event for all ages and abilities where you can bring your furry friend, too.

There are two distances, 3k and 5k (roughly 2 miles and 3 miles), to run or walk and plenty of fun at the finish line.

Tessie Garcia and the elementary school art class are making dog bone finisher medals for everyone who completes the distance and, for those doing the event in style, there are prizes for the best dressed, most festive dog-owner couple and more.

Please remember — dogs must be on a leash and you must pick up after your dog (we’ll have doggy bags for you).

Registration is in the store and if you enter before race day, you get two entries into the draw. Registration will also take place the day of the event beginning at 9 a.m. Price for entry (per person and not per dog): adults are $15 for 5k and $12 for 3k. Kids 10 and under race for free.
