Special to The PREVIEW

The planning for Seeds of Learning’s Little Black Dress Affair — “Magic Happens” — is in full swing, with magical entertainment, delicious food and an evening of elegance to enjoy with your friends.

While busily preparing for this event, it is important to take a few moments to reflect on the real purpose behind all the friends, food and fun.

Over 80 percent of the children that are educated every day at Seeds of Learning are considered “at risk.” What does that mean? It means those children are expected to fail.

Research over the past 40 years has proven, beyond a doubt, that early education makes a huge difference in the success of an adult. However, education comes at a cost — no education is free. As a nonprofit, Seeds must raise money to supplement tuition and grants to keep the doors of this accredited school open.

Donations from this event help pay for degreed teachers who provide an individualized learning plan for every child at Seeds. They help pay for breakfast, snacks and a hot lunch every day because we all know a hungry child cannot learn. They provide art supplies and consumables like wipes and tissues to promote creativity and keep our children healthy.

We know that while our guests attend to have a fun evening with their friends, they also understand the purpose is to raise money to educate the most vulnerable children in Pagosa.

We are looking forward to Oct. 1 and hope you’ll join us for all the magic from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now and are going fast. Tickets are $440 for reserved tables of eight or $50 for general seating. Buy your tickets at Seeds of Learning, 575 S. 7th St., Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 264-5513 for more information.
