Christopher Wegner was recently promoted to the grade of colonel, United States Air Force, during a ceremony at Los Angeles Air Force Base. A former resident of Pagosa Springs and son of Brenham, Texas residents Raymond and Patsy Wegner, Chris spent the majority of his childhood in Brenham before moving to Pagosa Springs for his last two years of high school. He returned to Texas in 1987 to attend college at UT Austin, earning an aeronautical engineering degree and an officer commission in the Air Force through the ROTC program. He is currently serving as the deputy director of contracting for the Space and Missile Systems Center located at Los Angeles Air Force Base. He has spent 21 years in the Air Force, spanning numerous assignments around the world, including multiple squadron command positions, the Headquarters Air Force staff at the Pentagon and deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. His 2009 service in Iraq culminated in receipt of the Bronze Star Medal.
