Every once in a while we find ourselves in that deep, dark place where no light shines through. God in his infinite wisdom has given us His Word to find our way out of the darkness and into the light.
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matt. 5:16 NIV)
We are the light of the world in this parable. When we are in darkness, we cannot see the love God unveils to us through His Word. He has the power to reveal His light when we pause and reflect on that word. God’s Spirit is there to give us light spiritually that we may obey the one true God, our Father.
The light of God is there to give us love and kindness, and to bring us the peace that we can only know through reading the Bible. Just as dawn in the valley breaks through the darkness, our eyes can be opened to the goodness and mercy that lies in wait for us when we seek God.
God gave us the parables to unveil the mystery of the Gospel so that we may know how to come into His presence and dwell there. The parables were not meant for the narrow minded or selfish. They were meant for His people to uncover the treasure of His kingdom. The treasure of his kingdom expressed here is meant for exposure to the light his people need to help them recognize goodness versus evil.
To know, know, know Him is to love, love, love Him as he has first given us love. To know God’s Word is to find the love and light that He very much desires for us to have. We have only to ask and it shall be given us. Praise God for His everlasting light.
Just as a lighted candle gives light in a dark room when the electricity goes off during a storm, Jesus will reveal his presence to us. We have all been in that deep, dark place when all other avenues have failed to help us. If we stop to see Jesus reveal His presence in our lives, then we can show others how to overcome the deep, dark places they are experiencing.
We live in a lost world. The lost are waiting for us to share our story of light, purity and joy, so they may experience it. Telling our story of how God has brought us out of the darkness into the light can lead others to burst forth with all admiration and continuity. Telling our story reinforces God’s love and proves his light shines forever. God is the light of the world.
Praise God in all things and light will be added to your life. The darkness will dwell in your life no more.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things. (Philippians 4:8 NIV)
