Special to The SUN
A big thank you goes to all who live and work on Lewis Street, and to those who volunteered and worked on the paving, new sidewalk and beautification projects for the street.
A block party will be held Saturday to thank everyone and to celebrate completion of the projects.
The day will start out at 9 a.m. with yard sales. In celebration of National Historic month, John and Lynnis Steinert have graciously opened the old jail building next to their home at 380 Lewis St. and, in addition to having a yard sale, they will be giving tours of the building. Staff at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church will also conduct tours. The tours begin at 10 a.m. and will go until 2 p.m.
Weather permitting, at noon there will be a potluck at the corner of 303 Lewis St. at Becky McCrainie’s property. The Town Historic Preservation Board has donated burgers, veggie burgers and buns. Becky is providing all the condiments, so bring your favorite dish and BYO to share in the fun. Please bring your own plates, forks and spoons, so we can be as green as we can. You’re welcome to bring chairs and tables on Friday. Jess Wilton will be playing music at the potluck. The Bear Creek is offering specials on food and beer. The folks at Church of Christ will be hosting a barbecue in the afternoon for parishioners.
A drive today on Lewis Street is euphoric compared what we experienced in recent years. The giant machines, gravel road and dust are things of the past. Finally, we have a beautiful street on which to drive and to take a walk. So, let’s party!
