Never again will we fondly state that Pagosa has no wind. Old Kansas herself must envious.
A forest fire in the Williams Creek district this week destroyed about 160 acres of timber. A pill of Duke’s mistake and a match in the hands of a wanton idiot was the cause. Be careful of fire, boys, these are dry times.
William Gould, another of our Archuleta County boys, is called to his country’s service, he will leave for Deming, N.M. Friday the 24th, having enlisted at Silverton. He will probably join the San Juan County contingent at Pagosa Junction. Let’s give the boy a send off that will keep his home town fresh in his memory.

Today marks the end of the 1932-33 term of school in both the grade and high schools of Pagosa Springs, the climax of each being recorded with the commencement exercises and the presentation of diplomas to the fortunate graduates in each division. The Pagosa High School, the only one of its class in Archuleta County, holds the record for the largest graduating class in the history of the school, there being a class of twenty-six, which consists of ten girls and sixteen boys.
The town hall of Pagosa Springs is this week undergoing a reincarnation — the application of a couple of coats of paint that almost disguise our ancient landmark. The artistic work is being done by J.C. Clay and son Frank.

The river is running just about as high as it has for several years. To date there has been no bad damage to any bridges or highways from the river but the moisture last winter and these spring rains all make road conditions poor. The bottom has gone out of many of them and the recent dry spell enabled county and state men to get some of them repaired.
The big sawmill is scheduled to start operating on a limited schedule sometime within the next few days. It is one of the finest anywhere and everyone is anxiously awaiting the time when it will be running full time.
Members of the parade committee for the Red Ryder Round-Up announced this week that a theme, “Story Book,” had been selected for the 1958 parade.

Unanimous approval was given to the Archuleta County Building Code by the county commissioners Friday. In general, the Archuleta County Building Code will consist of adoption of the Uniform Building Code with certain local provisions. All buildings within existing and future subdivisions will have to comply with the code. Persons building outside of a subdivision may also require the builder to comply with the building code.
May 19 was set aside to inspect the roads in Pagosa Pines II. County roads must be satisfactory for three years before the county will accept them into the county road system, according to specifications. The trial period was formerly one year.
