SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts is pleased to announce the opening of the SHY RABBIT Print International 4 on Saturday, July 27, with an artists’ reception from 2-6 p.m.

The public is invited at no charge. Several of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance to meet visitors and to discuss their work.

This International Juried Exhibition continues through Sept. 7.

This year’s juror was Michael Krueger, associate professor of art, University of Kansas.

This prestigious fourth annual printmaking exhibition builds upon the success and notoriety of the SHY RABBIT Print National 1, 2009; the SHY RABBIT Print National 2, 2010; and the SHY RABBIT Print International 3, 2012, which was expanded to include submissions from international artists.

A call to artists was published internationally in 2012, which resulted in entries from artists residing in 29 U.S. states, Canada, U.K., Iceland, Italy and Poland.

After careful review and consideration, Krueger selected 98 pieces by 47 artists, representing 27 U.S. states, Canada and Iceland.

Two of Pagosa’s own were among those selected by Krueger for inclusion in the SHY RABBIT Print International 4.

“Clouds Across the Ovum” (monoprint, 20x 20) by Pagosa Springs Middle School art teacher Gail Hershey will be on display, along with “Visitation” (monoprint, 23×31) by Judy Robbins.

Juror Michael Krueger received his B.F.A. from the University of South Dakota in 1990, and his M.F.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1993.

Krueger currently serves as an associate professor of art at the University of Kansas, where he has been teaching drawing and printmaking since 1995. He has conducted lectures and workshops at over 150 venues, including Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; Instituto Superior de Arte, Asunción, Paraguay; and Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI.

Krueger’s work has been widely exhibited in the U.S., Europe and Asia, and has been presented in several solo shows and more than 40 national and international group shows over the last decade, including exhibitions at Ambacher Contemporary, Munich, Germany; Glasgow Print Studio, Glasgow, Scotland; the International Print Center New York, New York; Sears-Peyton Gallery, New York; Davidson Gallery, Seattle, Wash.
