The inaugural Pagosa Springs Endurance Ride that was scheduled for Sept. 20 has been canceled.
Disappointingly, while the organizers were able to set and permit a beautiful course through the local trail network, they were unable to secure a staging area for horse trailers, horses and riders for that weekend.
Fifty-one out of town riders and four locals had already indicated their interest in attending the event, which offered 25-, 50- and 100-mile options. The hope is that the ride will go ahead in 2015 with more time to investigate appropriate and available private land adjacent to national forest trails.
Race director and local endurance rider Mike Le Roux commented on the cancellation, saying, “Thank you to all who showed their support and interest for an endurance ride in Pagosa Springs. It’s a new visitor audience for our town to promote to and many of the riders who signed up had not been to Pagosa before. There are many endurance rides north of Colorado and in California, but very few in the south. Riders were excited to try a ride at elevation and to experience Fall in a mountain town. I’m working hard toward a solution for 2015.”
