Special to The PREVIEW
Attention country and ballroom dancers: Get ready to boogie ‘til those proverbial cows find their way home, and be ready to sizzle in your sexy shoes as In Step Dance hosts two dance workshops Saturday at the PLPOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave.
Intermediate country western swing and beginning salsa workshops will be held at the same time on April 13, taught by Arthur Murray Champions Bob and Cindy Long from Albuquerque, N.M. This couple is world renowned for their expertise as traveling consultants and examiners for Arthur Murray Dance Studios. The Longs continually travel around the world, making themselves available for professional and pro/amateur coaching, teaching, choreography and adjudicating.
A free beginning country western swing class will be held tonight, Thursday, from 7-7:30 p.m. at On The Rocks, followed by open dance to a wide variety of country music until 9. This is in preparation for the workshops slated for Saturday, April 13. For more information, call Deb At 731-3338.
Registration for one or the other of the Long’s workshops begins at 2:45 p.m Saturday. Classes will run from 3-6, with a half-hour refreshment break midway (provided by In Step Dance). There will be a break from 6-6:30 for everyone to change into dressier attire for party mode, if they wish, or for last-minute food preparations.
We will enjoy cocktails and appetizers from 6:30-7 with a soup and salad potluck dinner following. Coffee, teas, non-alcoholic punch and water will be furnished, but feel free to bring your own adult beverage. If you bring an appetizer, please have it to the clubhouse no later than 6:30. If you elect to make soup, bring it in a Crockpot that can heat up during the workshop, as there will not be kitchen facilities available. The other options, of course, are to bring a salad or dessert.
DJ Dusty will play all our favorites from his vast variety of ballroom dance music from 7:30-10:30, and some entertainment is slated throughout the evening, as well as exciting door prizes. Remember, the dinner and dance is open to everyone, whether you attend a workshop or not.
You do not need a partner to attend, and the cost is $25 per person. All proceeds go to the visiting clinicians and to put on the event. Any leftover funds will go into a dance scholarship certificate that will be awarded to a lucky winner during the gift drawing Saturday evening. You must be present to win. If you attend a workshop, the dance is free. If you do not attend, the cost for the evening’s events is $5 per person. This will help pay for the DJ.
