Special to The SUN
An ice fishing contest will be held at the Lake Capote Recreation Area on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The event starts when the sun rises and ends at 3:30 p.m.
Permit fees to participate in the event are $10 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.
The lake is stocked with rainbow and brown trout, largemouth bass and channel catfish.
The prize for biggest fish of the day (any species) will equal half the revenue generated from permits sold to contest participants. The more people who come out to fish, the bigger the prize.
Other cash prizes will include biggest sunfish of the day, as well as prizes for the biggest and smallest fish caught by youth participants. Multiple door prizes will be offered as well.
The Lake Capote facility is located roughly 15 miles southwest of Pagosa Springs, on Colo. 151 just south of the intersection with U.S. 160.
