Special to The SUN
The public is invited to the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs animal shelter open house on Sunday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The animal shelter is located at 465 Cloman Blvd., on the road to the airport.
Humane Society volunteers will serve free hot dogs from the grill, along with chips and cold beverages as our way of saying “thank you” to the community for supporting our mission to help the homeless cats and dogs of Archuleta County. If you haven’t visited the shelter for a while, this is a great time to see our adoptable cats enjoying their new outdoor cat enclosure; and if you’ve never been to the shelter, this is the perfect opportunity for lunch and a tour.
The open house will include a dedication of the “Bark Park” dog park adjacent to the animal shelter. The park is open to the public and is a great place for dogs to run and play in a fenced environment. Bring your pooch and play in the park. Dedication and ribbon cutting at the park will take place at noon.
The Humane Society would like to extend a very special invitation to all shelter alumni to attend this year’s open house. If you have a dog or cat that was adopted from a shelter or rescue organization anywhere in the world, we’d like to meet them and celebrate their adoption. Come sign our Shelter Alumni Register and let us take a photo of you and your furry buddy to post on our Facebook page as inaugural members of our S/RAS (“Shelter/Rescue Alumni Society”). If your cat or dog is too shy to participate in the event, bring their photo and join in the celebration on their behalf. All available shelter alumni are encouraged to be in a group publicity photo after the Bark Park dedication. For safety considerations, all pet participants must be on leash.
This year’s open house will also feature several drawings for some great pet products donated by local merchants and the Humane Society. We’ll have drawings for a basket full of cool cat stuff and a basket of awesome dog stuff. There will also be two separate drawings for a one-year supply of cat food and a one-year supply of dog food. You must be present to enter, and you can enter all four drawings (limit of one winner per household).
Join us Sunday, July 14, at the animal shelter for food, fun and a celebration of our four-legged friends.
