Special to The PREVIEW
Since early January, more than 50 actors, musicians, crew and other volunteers have been in rehearsal in preparation for the opening of Pagosa Springs High School’s “Hairspray” the musical on April 1.
The popularity of “Hairspray” was revamped in 2007 with the movie version starring Zac Efron as Link and John Travolta playing Tracy’s lovable mom, Edna.
Produced by the music and theater departments at PSHS, directed by Dale Johnson and with musical direction by Dan Burch, our version stars Jeremy Medina in that off-beat role.
“Hairspray” opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre in 2002, ran for more than six years and 2,600 performances, and won Best Musical and Best Original Musical Score in 2003.
With less than a month until opening night, the auditorium is buzzing with rehearsals, and our cast works almost daily singing, dancing and acting.
“Hairspray” will play for five shows, April 1-5, with tickets available at the door.
