As part of Pagosa Springs Middle School’s expanding adventure learning opportunities, fifth-graders ventured two hours south of Pagosa Springs to Ghost Ranch on Friday, Nov. 3. All 130 students and staff traveled to northern New Mexico for a full day of learning and exploration. Students hiked scenic trails in the morning and gained an appreciation of the majestic high desert landscape. In the afternoon, students learned about the history of Ghost Ranch and studied the geology of the area by visiting the museum. Students created their own Georgia O’Keeffe-inspired oil pastel landscape painting as well. Finally, advisory groups completed a low-ropes-team-building course and naturalist study of the more arid climate. Staff will utilize this experience to ignite learning in the weeks to come.
