The champions return. Members of the victorious Pirate boys’ basketball team hoist the Golden Ball symbolizing their Class 3A championship, displaying it for all to see during a Sunday welcome at the high school. The team also shared the moment with one of the most loyal fans —  the radio voice of the Pirates, Chris Olivarez.

School was cancelled and a big party was held Monday as students, school officials, local elected officials and community members gathered in the Pagosa Springs High School gym to celebrate the Pirate boys’ weekend victory at the Colorado Class 3A basketball tournament. The Pirates brought the first team title to the school since the Pirate boys won the basketball championship in 1960.
