G.O.A.L. Connections parent event

By Anne Grad
Special to The PREVIEW

On Jan. 10,  G.O.A.L. Academy will host a parent event at the Pagosa Springs drop-in center at 100 Country Center Drive, Suite K and L.

All family members of G.O.A.L. Academy students are invited to come in and meet with coaches to get progress updates.

Also, coaches will talk about TCAP testing for ninth and 10th graders. The open house time will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Cold cuts and beverages will be served.

For those of you in the community who are not familiar with the school, G.O.A.L. Academy is a charter, online, public high school.  Students work independently while seeking academic assistance from content area specialists and receiving ongoing monitoring from an academic coach.  Students can work at the drop-in center, or they can work from home or a local library.

Presently, the Pagosa Springs site services students from Pagosa Springs, Ignacio, Cortez and Durango.  G.O.A.L. has been in existence in Colorado for five years and has been in Pagosa Springs for over a year and a half.

G.O.A.L. provides an alternative learning opportunity for high school students who have encountered difficulty in the public school or who need flexible school schedules.

Here are a few things parents of G.O.A.L. students have to say:  “I love the open door policy and the flexibility with access to staff.” (Ruthie R.); “I’m really satisfied with everything.  She is doing better now than she ever did in public school.” (Kim C.); “I love the idea of the Parent Coordinator and the family resource corner.”  ( Tobi W.);  “I am very excited about G.O.A.L.  I am thrilled that Tristan was able to test out of some classes.” (Marie F.); “My daughters’ main reason for coming to G.O.A.L. was to get away from the drama at the high school.  My son wants to come there, too.” (Crissy H.); “G.O.A.L. is a good fit for Ty. He is progressing and he is happy.” (Sharon F.); “George is happy coming to G.O.A.L.  Availability of staff is wonderful for parents.” (Laura S.);  “Dusten is doing very well at G.O.A.L., better than he ever did in school.” (Stacey S.); “I like G.O.A.L.  I will enroll my other son in G.O.A.L. in January.” (Tammy B.); “Blake likes coming to the site.  He is a hard worker and I appreciate the support he gets at G.O.A.L.” (Carla H.)
