Jack Searle, right, recognizes Frozen Mile Race competitors Ryder Searle, center, and Byron Castaneda last Saturday. Ryder won the inaugural event with a time of 5 minutes, 40 seconds. Castaneda came in second with a time of 6 minutes, 9 seconds. The race was staged at the Pagosa Springs High School track. The track was not cleaned off, thus the name “Frozen Mile.” Runners battled freezing temperatures along with chunks of ice and snow. Keep your eyes open for next year’s Frozen Mile that will be held on the second Saturday of January.
