Fun Day Rodeo Series
Experience the spirit of the West.
A great local tradition continues as the Pagosa Springs 2009 Fun Day Rodeo Series begins in May, with events scheduled into September.

Fun Day Rodeos will be held this year on four dates, yet to be determined, at the Red Ryder arena. Watch for announcements of dates in The Pagosa Springs SUN.

The arena is located south of the intersection of U.S. 160 and 84. Registration for events starts at 10 a.m. each day, and the rodeo begins at 11.

Any and all contestants are welcome to participate in the rodeos, and will compete in a variety of age categories.

Children 5 years of age and younger compete in barrels, poles, a flag race, goat tying and breakaway roping. For riders 6 to 8 years old, there is barrel racing, pole bending, a ribbon race and a flag race.

The lineup of events for 9 to 11, 12 to 14, 15 to 19 and 20-and-over age groups includes barrel racing, pole bending, flag race, breakaway roping, steer stopping, ribbon roping and goat tying.

A contestant’s age as of the first rodeo in the series determines the age group for the entire series.

Entries are accepted at the arena beginning at noon on the day of the rodeo. Each event is $4 or $15 for the day per competitor.

Ribbons are awarded for the top six places at each rodeo. Buckles and other prizes are presented to series winners in each age group. Additional series prizes are awarded down to sixth place. Contestants must enter three rodeos to qualify for year-end prizes.

Everyone is invited to enjoy watching event veterans and the youngsters trying to be grown-up cowboys and cowgirls. Watch The Pagosa Springs SUN for changes in starting times and dates, or call Randy Talbot at 731-5203 for information.
