Guided Forest Tour

8:30 a.m.-4: p.m. at the Coyote Hill parking lot, located just beyond the end of the pavement of Piedra Road on the east side. Learn about the condition of the local forest and the work that is being done to maintain them. Informative driving tour, includes lunch. WinterFest

Saturday and Sunday there will be races of all kinds at the golf course. Visit pagosanordic.com for more information on the races. Snowman Stomp Snowshoe Romp begins at 11 a.m. The annual Snow Sculpting contest will be on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Visitor’s Center on Hot Springs Blvd. At 2 p.m. the “Anything Goes Downhill Sled Race” will take place on Reservoir Hill. On Friday and Saturday evenings will be the Outlaw Snowdown concert at the athletic field in Town Park. There will be food, beverages and lots of live, rockin’ music. Tickets on sale at www.outlawsnowdown.com.  Sunday is the Penguin Plunge, benefiting various nonprofits in the community. Enjoy the Hot Toddy for the Body contest held along the Riverwalk beginning at 11 a.m. Contact the Chamber for more information, 264-2360.

CRIA Potluck

Chimney Rock Interpretive Association invites community members to come to the monthly potluck at the Ross Aragon Community Center. David Kill, museum specialist with the Anasazi Heritage Center, and Wendy Sutton, Pagosa District archeologist, will speak. CRIA will provide coffee, water and soft drinks. Anyone who wants to help with setup should arrive by 5:30 p.m. If anyone can stay and help clean and put away the tables, it is much appreciated.

Birding 101

Becky Gillette, Audubon’s Southwest regional director, will present the last bird identification training session in preparation for Weminuche Audubon’s second annual Christmas Bird Count at 6:30 p.m. in the South Conference Room at the Ross Aragon Community Center. The session will be a good opportunity to ask questions, to be sure you have the necessary paperwork, to review the details of what happens on CBC day (Dec. 15), and to know how to properly fill out and submit your bird data. Christmas party, 6 p.m. social hour before dinner at 7.  Bring a side dish that serves eight–10 people (appetizers, salads, vegetables, desserts, etc.). The club will provide turkey, ham and beverages. Also bring non-perishable food items for local food banks.  Some suggested items: canned beans, spaghetti, ravioli, tuna, vegetables, fruits, soups, dried pasta, pasta sauces, crackers, peanut butter, jelly, pancake mix, cereals, rice.
