Special to The PREVIEW
The Empty Bowls event will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pagosa Springs Elementary School.
Come and get a bowl, enjoy a meal, and share a table with other folks. It is an awesome experience.
Empty Bowls is a community project to raise money for our local food banks.
For $10, you get to choose a bowl created by teachers, local potters, community members and students. Each bowl is lead-free and food safe.
The bowl is then filled with soup, of different kinds, donated by students and community members. The bowls are each unique and beautiful and kept as a reminder of the hunger struggle —“empty bowls” — of people in our community and in locations around the world.
Making bowls and playing with clay is fun, but it also raises awareness and educates students and community members about hungry people.
Empty Bowls is also the celebration of the arts. There are many hours that go into this event, from making bowls to the glazing and firing of the bowls. It is worth it: Each piece is beautiful and represents so much. Last year, we raised over $4,000.
A special silent auction will take place during the event, with items provided by artists and local businesses to help in the fund-raising effort.
