Education Center offers computer and jewelry classes

Archuleta County Education Center offers a new class in Social Networking in which students can learn about Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and other social networking sites. Also covered will be how to set up a blog, and staying safe in cyberspace.

The Social Networking class will be taught by Fort Lewis senior Kristin Hopper. Currently a social media marketing intern, Hopper is also marketing supervisor at Fort Lewis College Recreational Services, and a board member for the Durango Independent Film Festival.

The class will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m.-noon. Cost is $40. The Social Networking class will be repeated in March.

Also new this month at the Education Center, jewelry artist Elizabeth Baldwin will teach a class on designing and making your own jewelry. Baldwin has a bachelor of fine art degree in metalsmithing and jewelry, and will teach students how to create their own designs. Her designs have appeared in Coldwater Creek and other national catalogs.

The Jewelry Making class will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m.-noon. Two additional classes will be held on Feb. 2 and 9. Cost is $65 for all three classes, or $25 individually. All materials are included.

Registration for all classes must be completed at least three business days prior to the class start date.

The Education Center office at 4th and Lewis streets (264-2835) is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Fridays.
