At this time, the Visitor Center on the west side of town in the Country Center will continue to be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Should you have any questions about hours of operation, contact Patricia Shoffner, Visitor Center coordinator, at 264-2360.
We would also like to thank all of the businesses that helped out with our annual diplomat thank you dinner. Our volunteers love this community and love to serve our businesses.
Chamber online voting
For the first time ever, the Chamber will offer online voting for the Board of Directors election through Elections Online, allowing members more flexibility with their voting options.
In addition to voting at the Chamber office or at the annual meeting, members will be able to vote confidentially, online.
In preparation for this addition, members will need to verify their user IDs and password information prior to the time we send this information onto Elections Online. We request that members complete the following steps:
Go to the Chamber website, www.pagosaspringschamber.com. Then go to the Member tab and then Member Login tab. Enter your current Chamber member user name and password. If you do not know this information, call Jan Santopietro, membership coordinator, at 264-2360. She will gain access to the system for you. At that time, you can change your user name and password to your specifications. Jan will also send an e-mail to all members the week of Oct. 8 that will list your user name and password. Please review this information; if you decide to change the login information for your business, click the Member Login sign-in with the user name and password provided, then, when logged on, scroll down to the bottom of the Member Only page and click change Username /Password.
It is important that you make any changes before Thursday, Nov. 1, when we will forward membership login information to Elections Online.
As always, each member is entitled to cast one ballot per membership. You will be able to view the biography and photo of each candidate on Elections Online just like you do when you vote in person. The nominated candidates’ bios will also be located on the Chamber website. With online voting, the Chamber will not know how you voted; just that you did. Your votes will be separated from any information that would associate you with the ballot. You will be flagged as having voted and will be unable to vote again. We will have a list, so you will not be able to vote again in person.
Voting in the 2013 Board of Directors election will open on Wednesday, Dec. 5, and continue with online voting until Friday, Jan. 18, at 5 p.m. After that, members will only have the option to cast their ballot in person at the annual meeting on Jan. 19, 2013. We are excited to roll this voting process out to the membership and we hope this enhancement will entice members to become more involved in the voting process. Please note the e-mails that will be coming to your business with the subject line of “2013 Board Election.” They will include important information and timelines. Don’t delete the e-mails.
There is still time to self-nominate for the Chamber Board of Directors for the 2013 election. Your business must have a membership that has been in good standing for at least one year. The director serves three years and can be either the owner or manager of the member business. Interested parties need to submit an application by Friday, Oct. 12. A total of six candidates will be presented to the general Chamber membership and three candidates will be elected.
For more information about running for the Chamber board, contact Mary Jo Coulehan at 264-2360. Nomination forms are also available online at www.pagosaspringschamber.com.
Pagosa Perks Raffle
It’s that time of year again.
You have the opportunity to win $1,000, $500 or $250 in Pagosa Perks local shopping dollars. The annual Pagosa Perks Raffle will be held now until Dec. 19, when the winning tickets will be pulled at the December SunDowner at The Springs Resort.
Pagosa Perks are local shopping dollars you can spend almost anywhere in Pagosa Springs. Use them for groceries, at restaurants and retail stores, and for many of the services offered in Pagosa. Use perks for household necessities, treat yourself, family or friends to a night out, or buy a special gift.
Raffle tickets are available at the Chamber or from any staff or Chamber board member for $5 per ticket, five tickets for $20. Buy some raffle tickets as gifts and let the recipients enjoy the excitement of the potential win.
Congratulations to Pagosa Brewing for numerous mentions nationwide about their special brew, Ancestral Ale, that was produced especially for the designation of Chimney Rock National Monument. Remember that tours for Chimney Rock are now over for the season. While access is still available to the site, parking is by the entrance gate and we remind visitors to treat the archeological site with respect.
There is a new business to welcome to the Chamber this week. Sue Ellen Haning joins the chamber with Wacky Wonderful Words. Sue Ellen is a tutor who offers assistance for people 3 years old to adults. Her tutoring includes assistance in phonics, grammar, spelling, reading and writing to help any student overcome difficulties with English. Sue Ellen also offers a free student evaluation. For more information about Sue Ellen’s program, call (806) 777-7407.
We welcome the following businesses back this week for renewal: Source Gas, Pagosa Feed and Nursery, Willie Swanda and Crazy Horse Outfitters, and the Pagosa Springs Nurturing Center.
We will announce the 2013 SunDowner schedule next week. This month’s SunDowner will be held at Mud Shaver Car Wash on Wednesday, Oct. 24. We hope to see you there.
