LPEA’s Mike Alley (right) hands Upper San Juan Search and Rescue Director Les Bivens (center) and Christina Marquart, Archuleta County’s deputy director of emergency management, a $6,000 donation for the search and rescue group. The $6,000 was a portion of the more than $8,000 raised through LPEA’s recent golf tournament, which was filled to capacity with 33 teams. In addition to search and rescue, each of the two local food banks received $1,000 each and area youth programs received donations. Bivens said search and rescue, which is always seeking volunteers, will use the donation primarily to provide additional training. Anyone interested in serving with search and rescue should contact the county’s emergency operations department at 731-4799.
