Dear Editor:

I regret that some in this community express divisions between our Hispanic people and others, like me. I have many Hispanic friends. They are very knowledgeable about this area, their ancestors sacrificed for this place, and it is their history that made this place “unique.” We were attracted to “settle” here, to join them, because it is a place like no other. They agree with “us” that we need to have “progress” so our young people can afford to live here.

However, they also ask the question, “Does progress have to open the door to things that do not enhance what makes us unique?” We are a community of peace and love for our neighbors, a life-style that requires little but daily comforts and outdoor fun that, for the most part, is free for everyone. Let’s not destroy the good feelings we all have for one another, Hispanic or not.
