Curtains Up

Dear Editor:

I have been a full time resident of the Pagosa Springs community for six years and almost since day one I have been involved with Curtains Up Pagosa. My son convinced me to let him audition for “Into the Woods” in 2008 shortly after we arrived in town. Before I knew it, I was auditioning too. I was so impressed with the organization and their dedication to cultivating the creative arts among our citizenry and in the schools, I jumped into the mix without hesitation.

This year, Curtains Up Pagosa! is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Pagosa Springs. CUP is a grassroots nonprofit organization that continues to donate money and supplies to our school arts programs, provide 4-year scholarships ($1,000/year) to high school graduates majoring in the arts, and has brought musicians, actors, visual artists, dancers, costumers and technicians together from all over the community to create extraordinary performing arts. The recent production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” is proof positive that when we all work together miraculous things can happen. Visitors to our community were absolutely stunned by how professional looking and sounding the show was.

Pagosa Springs has much more than beautiful scenery going for it. It has amazing, talented people who give generously to generate the kind of beauty that radiates from the human soul. My profound thanks go to the cast, crew, pit musicians, choreographers, costumers, set designers and especially to Dale Johnson, our director. It is a pleasure and a privilege to work with such amazing people
