Special to The PREVIEW
Curtains Up Pagosa! will kick off a yearlong celebration of its “Silverado 2014” 25th anniversary with a delightful musical rendition of the beloved Brothers Grimm story, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” scheduled for production Dec. 12-15 at Pagosa Springs High School.
This stage production version is written by Tim Kelly, with a toe-tapping musical score written by Bill Francoeur.
The cast of characters includes Snow White, the evil queen, a mischievous cat, a walking-talking magic mirror, Prince Robert, a huntsman, an enchanted vixen, Esmeralda (the queen disguised as a young girl), and seven dwarfs (Sarge, Gabby, Gloomy Gus, Ticklish, Spritely, Snore and Slowpoke). The play will also include a few non-speaking roles for children playing forest animals.
Auditions will be held at Pagosa Springs High School in the music room on Friday, Oct. 4, from 2-6 p.m., for children (beginning first grade), youth and adults. Those planning to audition should bring something to sing (provide sheet music — accompanist will be available). They also will be asked to do a cold reading from the script and learn a short dance step to perform in groups of six for the judges.
Curtains Up Pagosa! (formerly Music Boosters) is proud to play a unique and important role in helping to educate young people through adult mentorship and provide opportunities for them to be a part of the performing arts in our community and beyond. For the past 25 years, this vital organization has annually produced high quality musicals for the public, giving back the proceeds to provide college scholarships for selected students majoring in the arts; providing musical instruments and theatrical sound equipment, costumes, and sets for arts in the schools; actively promoting community support for the building of the beautiful high school auditorium we now enjoy; providing student scholarships for local, private lessons; and offering financial support to students in their pursuits of the arts.
“Silverado 2014” will be a gala year for the organization that has given so much to the development of the arts in Pagosa Springs over the past 25 years.
“We are looking forward to this exciting celebration and sharing many more years of volunteer mentorship and grass roots support for the arts in our schools,” said Dale Johnson, acting president of Curtains Up Pagosa!
