Curtains up Pagosa! will begin a yearlong celebration of its 25th year in Pagosa Springs with a relaxed evening of music at Nello’s Bistro on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 6-8 p.m.

CUP will feature many of the singers and instrumentalists you have come to enjoy over the years at its musical productions, including Johannah Laverty, Taylor Jones, Spence Scott, Heidi Tanner, Kathy Wadenpfuhl, Ami Harbison Crook, and directors Dale Johnson, Sally Neel and Darcy DeGuise.

CUP is planning monthly concerts over the course of the next year to highlight the talents and virtuosity of its many young and adult performers and to help raise funds for college arts scholarships, musical productions, and their specific goals of providing equipment and supplies to school arts programs.

“We have some very exciting goals that we want to fund in the coming years,” said Dale Johnson, “goals that we know we can meet with the help of our generous community.”

CUP has traditionally offered four-year scholarships to graduating seniors who are planning to major in the arts. Currently, they are funding five college students at $1,000 each per year. CUP recently established Danna’s Song, a $250 music scholarship for a worthy student who wishes to study private music lessons. This scholarship, established in honor of the late Danna Laverty who was a longtime volunteer for CUP, is offered three times per year to a student chosen by the executive board.

In addition to these established funding goals, CUP also provides needed equipment to the high school and lower school arts programs as they are able.

“One huge project the executive board has decided to fund is a new light board for the high school auditorium,” said Johnson. “This is an expensive project, one that will take many large and small contributions, but ultimately will be a huge long-term benefit to all arts events held on the high school stage. Currently, due to cumbersome outdated equipment, we are very limited in what we can do with spot lights in the auditorium. New updated lighting is a need that CUP can address with the support of our patrons.”

Curtains Up Pagosa!, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, will pass the cup at their monthly concerts, soliciting support from all who come to enjoy the show.
