Special to The PREVIEW

The Creede Arts Council will present the 10th annual Silver Thread Studio Tour on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is a self-guided driving tour along the beautiful Silver Thread Scenic Byway in the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado. Visitors can drive from South Fork through historic Creede towards Bristol Head, or try the reverse from Bristol Head to South Fork, enjoying both the beginning of fall color and the incredible wealth of artistic talent in the area.

Local artists will welcome visitors into their home studios or galleries. Artists will answer questions, share techniques, perform demonstrations and showcase a variety of works available for purchase.

The Silver Thread Studio Tour boasts a dozen artists at seven stops this year. The variety of mediums and techniques will make for a very informative day, ranging from jewelry making to fiber arts to photography to various painting mediums to woodworking. The combined experience and acclaim of the artists is extremely impressive. Many of the artists have national and international recognition in their respective fields.

Brochure maps will be available at the Chamber of Commerce in Creede and the visitor center in South Fork as well as at the various stops on the tour. You can also view and print the map brochure from the CAC website at

Watch for the bright red and yellow signs, banners and windsocks that will guide the way from stop to stop. There is no charge for this event and all are welcome during these hours, without reservations.
