County joins quest to protect Rio Grande cutthroat trout

Archuleta and nine other Colorado counties are banding together with the Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout County Coalition in an attempt to avoid having the fish listed as federally endangered.

The county-level action joins actions at other levels to attempt to conserve the species without the federal designation and the associated ramifications that could come with that designation, such as additional land use consultations for public lands and potential fishing limits due to the fish’s status.
