Every chair in the council chamber at Pagosa Springs Town Hall was occupied and a crowd soon gathered at the door last Tuesday as Mayor Don Volger called the meeting to order, led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence, and then opened it up for public comment.
The abnormally large interest in town affairs was the result of the first item on the meeting’s agenda — a planned debate between Jason Nichols, an outspoken opponent of smart meters, and Dan Harms from the La Plata Electric Association (LPEA). However, before either side made their presentations, several members of the audience were given a chance to step up and express their opinions on the issue.
