The members of the Pagosa Springs Community Band will begin rehearsals Sept. 30 in preparation for the group’s annual fall concert.

Members of the Pagosa Springs Community Band will begin rehearsals Monday, Sept. 3, for their fall concert.

Rehearsals will be held in the band room at Pagosa Springs High School and registration for the first rehearsal on Sept. 30 will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the rehearsal beginning at 6. Subsequent rehearsals will be weekly and will alternate between Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. The fall concert is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23.

If you play a concert band instrument, percussion, or a string instrument we invite you to join The Pagosa Springs Community Band.  If you haven’t played for a while, dust off your instruments and come enjoy some camaraderie with fellow musicians.

The band is under the musical direction of retired band director Larry Baisdon who makes rehearsals fun and educational. There are several members who played their instruments in their youth and only recently picked them back up again, so don’t be shy about giving your instruments a second chance.

A few of the pieces you can look forward to playing this concert are “Shenandoah” and “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”

The Pagosa Springs Community Band is a non-profit organization and there is a $15 membership fee to assist with covering music and administrative costs. The fee is collected during the registration process at the first rehearsal. If a family has multiple members participating, the registration fee will be capped at $30.  If you would like to play with the band, but do not have the financial resources to pay this fee, come and join in — arrangements will be made for those unable to cover the fee.

Last but not least, the band members will hold a pre-rehearsal potluck lunch on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 1-3 p.m. at 853 Majestic Drive, which is located in the Piedra Estates subdivision just off Piedra Road one block off U.S. 160. The potluck lunch will be an informal gathering where you can get to know members and obtain additional information about the organization. Bring a covered dish and join the other musicians for this pre-season social event.
