Special to The PREVIEW
The Pagosa Springs Community Band will begin rehearsals on Sunday, Feb. 3 for its spring concert.
The community band is under the direction of Larry Baisdon and will be presenting its second annual Band-o-Rama concert which is a joint concert with the Middle School and High School bands. Last year’s concert was a showcase of wonderful concert band music and our school’s instrumentalists really shined. This year’s concert is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at the high school auditorium.
Members of the Pagosa Springs Community Band are proud to announce we will be featuring local pianist and music educator Venita Burch as a soloist playing George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” Burch has given of her time unselfishly to assist young musicians in Pagosa Springs through her teaching, as an accompanist to the high school choir, and as a coach for the high school’s musical productions. She also serves as the Pagosa Springs Community Choir’s accompanist. The community band is looking forward to seeing the very talented Venita Burch in the spotlight playing this very challenging and exciting piece by Gershwin.
If you play a concert band instrument, percussion or a string instrument, we invite you to join our group. Rehearsals are held weekly and will fall on either Sunday afternoon or Monday evening.
If you haven’t played for a while, dust off your instrument and come enjoy some camaraderie with fellow musicians. Once again, our first rehearsal is Sunday, Feb. 3, from 2-4 p.m. in the Pagosa Springs High School band room. We know it is Super Bowl Sunday. Larry loves football, too, and has promised to be done before the game begins. Registration will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Lastly, the band will accept, but not require, $15 donations from players to assist with the cost of producing the concert.
